DOGE & Obesity
Many people are enraged by the job cuts that DOGE is creating.
These cuts are the mathematical result of eliminating unnecessary government positions
that over-regulate citizens and burden taxpayers.
Let us draw a parallel between excess government and excess weight in Americans.
Imagine if everyone went down to their proper weight by 2030. What would this mean
1) This 20% drop would affect farm prices, because it would alter the supply-demand equation
BUT… if everyone were at their proper weight, there would be an increase in gym memberships.
But no matter who it angers, or genuinely hurts, eliminating bureaucratic waste and inappropriate government oversight is completely justified.
Let us draw a parallel between excess government and excess weight in Americans.
One CDC website says that 40+ percent of Americans are obese.
30% of Americans have simple obesity (30% BMI)
10% of American are severely obese (40%+ BMI)
This obesity created medical costs exceeding $170 Billion in 2019.
Imagine if everyone went down to their proper weight by 2030. What would this mean
for American jobs? Let us pretend that in five years - all Americans were at 27% BMI.
Next, let us suppose that American food consumption would drop 20% from current levels.
1) This 20% drop would affect farm prices, because it would alter the supply-demand equation
which would affect the manufacturing pace of farm machinery and food equipment.
2) It would reduce the size and staffing of all food production enterprises, especially snack foods. 3) It would reduce the sales and thus the staffing of grocery stores.
4) It would reduce the output and income of America’s restaurant sector.
5) Fuel consumption would be cut across the board of the food chain.
6) How many nurses and other hospital employees would lose their jobs, and how many fewer,
expensive tests would be needed to uncover obesity-related health problems?
The Type 2 Diabetes industry would drastically downsize. Pun intended.
7) We would need fewer clerical workers in the health insurance industry.
8) How many fewer government workers in the Medicaid department would be needed?
9) And consider volunteers in various humanitarian endeavors. When people become healthier,
volunteers also lose their positions and their means of helping others, which is a life-force
for many who serve without pay. But...still, this would be a good thing in its own right, eh?
10) And interjecting climate change into the discussion, how many fewer millions of gallons of gas
would be burned going back and forth to doctor’s appointments, if everyone maintained a
healthy weight? Wow. That is called ‘the cascading effect’.
Climate Change advocates should be the most weight conscious, eh?
Or - do obese Americans owe it to other Americans to stay obese - to help them stay employed?
BUT… if everyone were at their proper weight, there would be an increase in gym memberships.
We would see an uptick in the manufacture and sales of exercise equipment, sports and outdoor lifestyle products and services. And people would have money to invest in other things that would create jobs and they might even start savings accounts. Wow.
Likewise, America’s government is obese, and needs trimmed down.
Some people love to control others. The human desire to control other humans -
creates plantations and bureaucracies. (A bureaucracy is just a government-owned plantation.)
And there are ranks of would-be bureaucrats lined up - waiting for the opportunity to create their own little plantations.
Anyway, when an imbalance exists, it often exists - because the imbalance profits someone.
Anyway, when an imbalance exists, it often exists - because the imbalance profits someone.
If we correct the imbalance, those who profited from the imbalance will suffer from the correction and will be unhappy. It’s human nature. This is true - even if many of the staff are innocent,
lower-level employees of a government agency who just want to work.
But no matter who it angers, or genuinely hurts, eliminating bureaucratic waste and inappropriate government oversight is completely justified.
