The Reiner Event

Was the Reiner Event predictable?
Patricide is when a person murders their own parent. (though patricide often involves a stepparent, which the news often doesn't clarify). Patricide of famous people by drug-using offspring is not unheard of and is excused by many as 'a mental-health issue’.
I want to explore a few facets of the Reiner Event. Over my 7 decades, I have known a few chronic drug users personally and have formed my own views about drug abuse –
Nick Reiner is the son of a famous man, Rob Reiner, and the grandson of Carl Reiner. I used to watch Carl Reiner on the Dick Van Dyke Show in the 1960s. My dad and I also watched Rob Reiner, as the actor 'Meathead', disrespect 'Archie Bunker', the man who put a roof over his head.
2) Every drug user that I have known at any depth, had a strong craving to be considered ‘clever’. Perhaps this stems from parental rejection. Cleverness is a poor substitute for competence,
3) In order for the Reiners to be famous and accepted in Hollywood, they had to be pro-abortion. When parents hold a pro-choice view, this has to create mental distress in their children -
Children of pro-choice adults are likely to have Survivor's Guilt;
Nick Reiner grew up in this environment … and I propose that older children of pro-choice parents likely have blurred lines about the sanctity of all human lives - that inconvenient humans are disposable – perhaps even over-demanding parents, eh?
4) Here is something I realized decades ago about drug addiction – and every addiction;
Some people are imaginary victims or exaggerate their wounds. They suspect that other people lead happier lives. They are often correct. They believe that 'normal' people feel good most of the time, and they want to feel like normal people. Normal people have small successes in life that produces feel-good brain chemicals. Some offspring of critical superstars are unable to gain the successes that prompt the production of these brain chemicals.
6) I don’t know how supportive of a father - Rob Reiner was to Nick,
The purpose of this offering is to highlight certain pieces of the Reiner puzzle that people may not want to examine. Nick Reiner is accused of killing his bio-parents Rob and Michelle Reiner. (Accused, not yet tried.)
But if Nick is found guilty, I would assert that this event had a degree of predictability.
Patricide is when a person murders their own parent. (though patricide often involves a stepparent, which the news often doesn't clarify). Patricide of famous people by drug-using offspring is not unheard of and is excused by many as 'a mental-health issue’.
The 'mental-health' label helps family and friends avoid the swamps of ugly truths.
The mental health label is a rug that ugly truths can be swept under.
Some people are trying to paint Rob Reiner as a near-saint and his son Nick as a confused creature - not in charge of his own faculties.
Nick Reiner is reported to be associated with unprescribed substance abuse.
I want to explore a few facets of the Reiner Event. Over my 7 decades, I have known a few chronic drug users personally and have formed my own views about drug abuse –
far before the Reiner case erupted. I’ll explore these items one at a time…
You will need to piece together these separate thoughts as you please -
and weave your own conclusions.
Hold this thought and think it through.
1) Children of famous people often struggle trying to find a place of honor and respect at the family table. Many offspring of famous people, including Nick Reiner, I imagine - struggle with becoming adults who can be comfortable having famous parents - while being unable to compete with them on any playing field.
Hollywood, Wall Street and Washington DC all have high-powered people with offspring that grovel in the addiction gutter. Beside the curse of ‘Affluenza’, I think this trouble is partly due to their inability to match a parent’s performance – and perhaps a parent that has a disdain for
Hollywood, Wall Street and Washington DC all have high-powered people with offspring that grovel in the addiction gutter. Beside the curse of ‘Affluenza’, I think this trouble is partly due to their inability to match a parent’s performance – and perhaps a parent that has a disdain for
‘an under-performing offspring’. Seriously, this condition needs a clinical name. Perhaps - 'Perceived Offspring Incompetence’? Offspring Incompetence involves a struggling offspring trying to grow up under a supposed superstar, but derisive parent.
2) Every drug user that I have known at any depth, had a strong craving to be considered ‘clever’. Perhaps this stems from parental rejection. Cleverness is a poor substitute for competence,
but it is the best that some children of superstars can do – under the withering gaze of a disappointed, self-assessed superstar parent. (and many parents overrate themselves)
> Avoiding arrest while using drugs shows some level of 'cleverness'.
> Avoiding arrest while selling drugs shows even more 'cleverness'.
> Avoiding arrest while making drugs shows the most 'cleverness'.
I’ve seen it happen. Is this part of the lure of drugs?
Understand, in a competent drug rehab setting – one's sense of self-cleverness is challenged.
Rehab is a time of brutal self-assessment, and an addict’s cleverness is not a high point in rehab.
I suspect that one reason so many addicts fail rehab is because rehab challenges their sense of cleverness – and – many addicts avoid rehab because they would have to admit that clever people don’t become drug addicts. Inject that thought into a vein of your consciousness.
3) In order for the Reiners to be famous and accepted in Hollywood, they had to be pro-abortion. When parents hold a pro-choice view, this has to create mental distress in their children -
once the children are old enough to process the truth of abortion.
Abortion is human trafficking. Surviving offspring are the children of human traffickers,
Abortion is human trafficking. Surviving offspring are the children of human traffickers,
and must learn to accept this in their child/parent relationship.
Children of pro-choice adults are likely to have Survivor's Guilt;
wondering how they happened to avoid the D&C Guillotine - being treated like an illegal alien in their mother's own womb, with an automatic death penalty.
How can the child of a pro-choice adult ever feel truly loved? How many times have they sat at a family dinner and wonder how many more places should be set?
Nick Reiner grew up in this environment … and I propose that older children of pro-choice parents likely have blurred lines about the sanctity of all human lives - that inconvenient humans are disposable – perhaps even over-demanding parents, eh?
T or F: Pro-choice parents are more likely to be murdered by pro-choice children
than pro-life parents - by pro-life offspring, eh?
4) Here is something I realized decades ago about drug addiction – and every addiction;
Virtually every addiction is rooted in self-pity.
These people - feel they have been victimized in life and carry about ‘poor Me’ philosophy.
And wherever there is a ‘poor Me’ attitude, there will also be an ‘I want!’ mentality’
of whatever it is they think they are missing. Shortly after ‘I want!’ comes ‘I deserve!’.
Such people believe they have a right to initiate compensation for the disparities in their lives.
Some of these people are genuine victims. Whenever I hear of an ordinary female arrested for drug abuse, I assume she was a victim of some type of sexual abuse. (but I don’t automatically assume this with the daughter of a rich or famous person, though that too may be the case.)
Some of these people are genuine victims. Whenever I hear of an ordinary female arrested for drug abuse, I assume she was a victim of some type of sexual abuse. (but I don’t automatically assume this with the daughter of a rich or famous person, though that too may be the case.)
But… when a woman at trial claims past sexual abuse as a mitigating circumstance, hoping to escape jail time… she should be required to name her abuser – so the perp can be investigated, and future sexual abuse of others can be prevented.
So they self-medicate, with whatever 'thing' makes them feel good.
(I experimented with mild drugs when young, but they never did me any good.
I was raised - knowing how to hope. And hope creates positive brain chemicals.
5) Many ‘mental health’ claims are made by people that refuse to acknowledge that evil simply exists. Yes, there is such a thing as evil. And yes, there are legitimate mental health dysfunctions.
but too many people use the mental health label to escape accountability or avoid talking about the very real presence of human evil. Defense lawyers especially hate the word ‘evil’,
for evil always deserves to be found out, condemned and punished.
6) I don’t know how supportive of a father - Rob Reiner was to Nick,
but I know Rob Reiner lived in rage. Rob Reiner hated Donald J. Trump.
It was no secret. And Rob Reiner hated anyone that supported Trump.
This means that Rob Reiner hated Eric J. Rose too.
Nick Reiner grew in an environment of hate and rage. So, if Nick is found guilty of the Reiner murders, we can say that Nick learned rage at home - how to hate, and he proved he knew how to express that hate - through a level of rage that killed his parents.
Perhaps Nick Reiner hated Rob Reiner - like Rob Reiner hated President Trump. Wow.
I wonder if Rob Reiner was jealous of Donald Trump - for the way the Trump children conduct themselves as adults. It's weird the way the human jealousy can create enemies -
and the side-excuses a person can use to justify their hatred.
Also, consider the fact that Rob Reiner and Donald Trump have several similarities.
Both in their upper 70s; both born into successful families at the same time in history,
Neither of them had to struggle to eat. Both of them have a political streak in them, but one was merely a megaphone for his party, while the other became a political machine in his own right.
7) I have seen one child in a family singled out for criticism, and the other siblings accepted.
They seem unscathed - but, no. The picked-on child sees the disparity and sets himself to live in a way that makes those siblings miserable too. So, everyone in the house is miserable.
Emotional Socialism.
12-30-25: I just came across a patricide/suicide in the news, from Terrell, Texas.
The elder Humphrey (66), murdered, and his adult son (38), suicide,
The elder Humphrey (66), murdered, and his adult son (38), suicide,
an older female and a boy also dead. I will be watching to see how this plays out.
12-31-25: I just came across another case of patricide in Las Vegas. The Bailey family.
Parents dead, son arrested for murder. We will see what happens.

These are the kinds of death that President Trump is trying to prevent. While most people think that drug deaths are all about drug users, drug deaths are also about the parents, romantic partners and children of drug users and even siblings and neighbors. Never forget that.
Most drug deaths have some element of childhood mis-guidance. We need to quit caring so much about the family reputations and deal with the issues that create such horrors.
It will be interesting to see how Nick's defense lawyers handle this.

But God knows everyone’s heart and Jesus owns the Final Judgment Day.
Everyone answers to Jesus for the choices they have made.
And God knows the difference between mental illness and evil.
God Himself sets the definition of evil.
And I offer this verse out of the New Testament, Hebrews 11:6
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
