I Deserve!

If human behavior were an exact science, this article would fit here.

One big problem with America is that so many people have an inbuilt sense of entitlement.

"I  Deserve ...............................! "    is the expression for that sense of entitlement.

With nearly every personality conflict in America, 'I Deserve!' is the engine that drives the conflict.
Let's study an historical event that illustrates much of today's angst.
Now I wasn't there for this event, so I don't exactly know all the details, but here goes:

*****************************************

In 1788 a Lemhi Shoshone girl was born, in present-day Idaho, and was named Sacajawea.
About 1800, an Hidatsa raiding party from North Dakota took 12-year-old Sacajawea and several other Shoshone youth captive. (human trafficking)

At about 13, Sacajawea and a fellow-captive girl were sold as non-consensual chattel wives to a white fur trapper, Toussaint Charbonneau. Human trafficking. (more human trafficking)
Living in the North Dakota area, they met the Lewis and Clark Party in 1804 at Fort Mandan.
Charbonneau promoted himself as a translator and offered himself and one purchased wife,
Sacajawea, as translators to the service of the Corps of Discovery.
They were hired, with Sacajawea being 6 or 7 months pregnant at that time.
Jean Batiste Charbonneau was born February 1804 and the team left Fort Mandan that April.
You may know of the route and they rigors they endured.
The Corps of Discovery made their entire journey with little 'Little Pompy' in tow - for about 30 months. Captain Clark later adopted the boy.

And here is where we merge this story into modern America life.....

Have you ever been in line to board a plane, and everyone is ....okay?
Then a young couple come into que, carrying a baby.
The mood of the group ... rapidly declines.

Oh...the angst! What a horror - having to spend 3 hours on an airplane with an infant!
"I Deserve better than this!"

Sooooo selfish, some people are.
They think they deserve a childless flight.
Do I need to say more?
And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Except that 'I Deserve!' is a rampant mental affliction here in America.
Trajan's Column is a monument dedicated to "I Deserve!"
If we truly deserve something, it will be included in:
> the Golden Rule
> or the US Constitution,
> or in a legal contract or law or statute.
> or by a promise...
with a clear conscience that WE have not wronged anyone else in this same manner.
I DESERVE

I need....

Keep this in mind when negotiating any demands that come to you in any relationship.
"I need" may just be another way of saying "I Deserve!"
