Sanctuary Labor Unions
SANCTUARY UNIONS
Labor unions in sanctuary cities...
What role do labor unions play in 'sanctuary politics' ?
Let me highlight the situations of two unions in two sanctuary cities, then you think it through.
You will see why some factors in sanctuary cities MUST bring conflict.
Minneapolis:
Minneapolis is a sanctuary city that ICE has targeted, like illegal immigrants have targeted Minneapolis for several years. The Minnesota Nurses Union (MNU) has protested ICE presence. They are also in a labor dispute with hospitals over break times and employee safety.
My limited exposure to this issue tells me:
> Immigrants spend less per year on traditional paid-plan healthcare than citizens,
but illegal immigrants are more likely to use unpaid emergency healthcare and ambulance
services. (Texas spent over $1B in 2025 for hospital care for immigrants.)
> I suspect that immigrants are more likely to commit acts of violence against
healthcare workers, especially Muslim men against female healthcare workers,
because of their inherent disrespect for women.
>The number of immigrants accessing unpaid healthcare - stretches a hospital's resources,
tempting administration to shorten nurses breaktimes to keep payrolls lower.
It seems strange that the Minnesota Nurses Union is fighting to keep the illegal immigrants that wear the nurses out and make their workplace unsafe, eh? Prove me wrong.
But here is a hidden formula...
A) More people to treat means the need for more employees.
B) Longer breaks (often deserved) requires higher staffing levels
C) More employees mean more union members.
D) More union members mean more union dues, and likely higher wages for union staffers.
E) More union dues collected means more money for political contributions.
MNU dues for full-time RNs are 2.2x base hourly rate, per month.
There seems to be a tug-of-war at the MNU, nurse safety verses MNU income.
More below, about Chicago Teacher's Association.
SANCTUARY UNIONS
The Chicago Teachers Association (CTA)
This union membership is available to all school employees, not just teachers.
> Annual union dues are about $1,400 per year.
> I've read that Chicago Public Schools has about 48,000 employees.
> I've read that about 25% of kids in CPS are children of illegal immigrants.
> Then, if all illegals were removed from Chicago, the schools should lose 12,000 employees.
> CTA would lose $16,800,000 per year in union dues.
> Additionally, Chicago occupies all or parts of 10-11 Congressional seats.
There would be a loss of 2-3 seats if the illegals were removed from Chicago,
an issue in all sanctuary cities.
(each US House seat represents 761K district-inhabitants, not just citizens.)
This is why democrats hate ICE. They've killed their own unborn for so many decades,
they can't win the Oval Office or either Chamber of US Congress honestly.
They have to resort to ballot fraud and illegal immigration to win National offices.
Look at the CTA demands; free abortions. It just goes on and on...
Democrats don't seem to grasp the mathematical connection between abortions and elections.
They are depopulating themselves.
